Students from the Koroit school dressed up in colourful clothing to represent different cultures and raise awareness of people from other backgrounds.
Teacher Leisa McCosh said students made art work, and tried out cooking and dancing from a variety of countries.
“The idea was to look at how identity is formed and if we value identity we can live in a more harmonious country and world,” Ms McCosh said.
She said the topic formed part of the school’s InterCultural Capabilities work and they also spoke about National Reconciliation Week.
“The students made large murals with the words peace, love and respect with the help of Aboriginal students from Clontarf Academy.”
Parents who have migrated to Australia shared their personal stories helping to open the students’ eyes to some of the challenges new residents can face.
