Mr Gstrein, who has autism, has been supported by disability organisation Karingal to train up as a volunteer and offer his skills for the past year.
On Thursday morning, Mr Gstrein kept students entertained with his animated readings of the classic The Little Mermaid and the rhyme-filled Slinky Malinki, the story of a mischievous cat who thieves neighbourhood belongings at night.
Mr Gstrein underwent volunteer training to prepare for the role with his support worker Tony McKenzie, and taking part in the program has provided him with a boost to his confidence.
At the same time, the experience has assisted the children in understanding the value of diversity and inclusion in the community.
Kinder teacher Sarah McPhail said having Mr Gstrein come to the kinder for the readings formed part of the early years education program, and the children enjoyed listening to stories.
