Held around the shire from May 26 to June 2, the focus will be the contributions and achievements of Aboriginal people, with Glenelg Shire Council mayor Anita Rank inviting the community to share in the celebration.
“The week of events starts with the symbolic walk led by Aboriginal elder Hilary Saunders over the Reg Saunders Bridge,” Cr Rank said.
“Hilary’s father, Reg Saunders, was the first Aboriginal Australian to be commissioned as an Australian Army officer, so we are incredibly fortunate to have her leading the way for cultural reconciliation. This week reinforces the message to our community that reconciliation is not just a once-a-year occasion, but rather an ongoing commitment.”
