Maher has a strong contingent of runners listed to run at next week's Warrnambool May Racing Carnival with his mare Regina Coeli attempting to win her second Grand Annual Steeplechase.
Overberg will appreciate the jump up in distance to 2000 metres for Saturday’s race, according to the Caulfield Cup-winning trainer.
“I've been wanting to get Overberg out to the 2000 metres,” Maher said.
“He's got a lovely staying pedigree. I was very happy with his last run over 1800 metres.
“The 2000 metres should be right up his alley. He's a more rounded horse in this campaign.”
Maher's other runners on the nine-race program are Judelly, Mightiest, Mande and Sheriff John Stone, while Symon Wilde has the last-start Stawell winner Floral Fever running over 1200 metres.
