The reigning Ballarat District Soccer Association best-and-fairest said while the Jones Oval side were wary of the Vikings, it held no fear leading into the clash.
“We played well against them last season and more than held our own. I think we have a better side this year and have a strong chance,” Cowling said.
“We’ll have our fast style of game on, but we can be physical if we need to be.
“We probably need to match them in skill and physicality. We’ll look to attack and try to find our through balls.”
The 18-year-old expected Sebastopol to field a slightly different side and called on his teammates to bring “extra energy” to the fixture.
“It’s great to start off against them at home. I know they’ll look a bit different than they did, like we do too this season.”
