Police said the teenager released the clutch too quickly, causing the bike to flip.
He landed on his back and suffered minor injuries.
Emergency services were notified about 5pm, including an ambulance and police.
The teenager was transported to the Portland Base Hospital for treatment.
The youth was with family members, riding along a railway line on the unregistered quad bike when the accident happened.
Police cautioned quad bike riders to be careful, especially during the warmer summer months when the ground is hard.
