Police, VicRoads, fisheries and sheriff officers joined forces for the operation in Yambuk late last week, undertaking drug and alcohol testing and checking for outstanding sheriff’s warrants and road-worthiness.
Port Fairy Police Sergeant Mick Wolfe said more than 1130 drivers were breath tested and about six drug tests were undertaken – returning one positive reading.
Sergeant Wolfe said a driver in his early 20s from Portland tested positive for drugs. It is expected he will receive a licence suspension and a fine.
Sheriff officers stopped people with $19,280 worth of outstanding fines. Ten road unworthy notices were also handed out.
“It was a good one-day operation, the results show it was successful,” Sergeant Wolfe said. “We will be doing it again, whether it be day or evening and at a different location.”
