On Sunday, the fifth installment of the fun run was held with 143 people taking part.
This was double the number of runners who entered last year.
The event was organised by year 12 students at Mercy Regional College Camperdown.
Teacher at the school and event co-ordinator Stacey Madden said the fun run had exceeded expectations.
“We are thrilled with the number of people that took part,” Mrs Madden said.
“We did a bit more promotion in the lead-up to the event this year and we also changed the timing of the run from the afternoon to the morning so I think both those things helped.”
Overall winner for the 8km run was Logan Cuthell with a time of 32.05 while Stephen Crowe won the 4km run in 19.22. In the walk section, Indi Kent was the first female home and Daniel Sinnott the first male.
Other winners included:
In 8km run: Danielle Schmidt (primary female), Willoughby Perris (primary male), Tully Watt (under 16 female), Logan Cuthell (under 16 male), Katie Hallyburton (open female), Ashley Ansell (open male), Michelle Norton (masters female), Warren Martin (masters male).
In 4km run: Tabitha Perris (primary female), Ethan Boyd (primary male), Zoe Wilkinson (under 16 female), Morris Martin (under 16), Kasey Ellmore (open female), Stephen Crowe (open male), Narelle Kerr (masters female), Darren Egberts (masters male).
Mrs Madden said the quality of competitors was of a high standard.
“The event is about participation but we are also getting some very good athletes taking part,” Mrs Madden said.
“The times were really good and we had a lot of members of the Warrnambool athletics and triathlon clubs taking part. The overall winner, Logan Cuthell, is from Timboon.”
While the fun run is becoming an important event on the south-west athletics calendar, its value transcends sport.
As well as being organised as a community project by the year 12 leadership team, other year 11 and 12 students also help in the smooth running of the fun run.
Mrs Madden said the money raised from the event goes to a worthwhile community cause. “Each year the money raised goes to a local health service and this year it was the Camperdown hospital,” she said.
