The motel was named the best 3.5 star property within the Best Western (BW) Hotels and Resorts group on August 24. The award was presented at the chain’s annual conference on the Gold Coast.
Owner Raj Patel said it was a huge honour to win.
He said the property was up against others from New South Wales, Western Australia and international locations such as New Zealand and Fiji.
“I was surprised. Out of all those properties I got picked which is brilliant,” he said.
“To be rewarded for the hard work we do is great. It’s the staff that make it. Without the staff you can’t run a business. It’s all dependent on your housekeeping and food and beverage staff. Everyone’s involved.”
Judging was based on quality assessment scores, guest satisfaction surveys, BW program participation and an email submission.
The property has 43 rooms, including two-bedroom apartments and the heritage-listed Harbour Masters Suites which are currently undergoing renovations.
He employs 22 staff, many of whom are long-term employees.
“It’s really good, but it doesn’t stop here,” Mr Patel said.
“There’s lots going on. I love it. Every day I come to work I love what I do.”
