Articles published in The Standard and the Moyne Gazette called for south-west residents to sponsor a child to attend the school’s kinder, which is due to open next month.
Ms Ryan said they received more than 15 calls and text messages during the weekend from residents interested in sponsoring a child.
The couple and a band of volunteers built the kindergarten in Mto wa Mbu where Mr Sakate grew up, with funding from Port Fairy groups.
