LAST week we ran a photo that included the exterior of the Coles Store in Liebig Street, circa 1947. This week we have a photo from the interior, taken soon after.

The details for this picture are scant. The Warrnambool & District Historical Society believes the shot was snapped in the 1950s, although the name of the photographer is unknown.
All we know for certain is that it was taken in the Coles Store that occupied the building where Katies and OPSM now exist in Liebig Street.
What’s striking about this photo is the way the store was laid out – it looks spacious by today’s standards.
It’s hard to make out a lot of items, but the left wall is dedicated to women’s clothing, crockery is on the back wall, while the centre is a mixture of toothpastes, coathangers, books and more.
