The Tigers would prefer to be in a position where they have to hold off competitors, rather than fighting to break into the top end of the ladder late in the season.
“That’s one of our major goals for the season, to get top five and hold that for the season,” Finck said.
The new Tigers mentor, who coached the club’s A1 side last season, said the senior team would have a healthy mix of youth and experience this year.
The senior playing group has lost a few players, who have moved away with university commitments, but also expects to regain a few.
Finck, who has coached Portland at both junior and senior levels, said she was looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s something I’ve always looked at doing, I think the time was right for me and I was ready,” she said.
