The nine-member selection panel, chaired by AFL boss Gillon McLachlan, on Tuesday night unveiled Wood on a half-back flank in the 22-member squad.
The selection comes on the back of a career-best season with the resurgent Western Bulldogs.Wood, 26, averaged 17.7 disposals and tallied 57 rebound-50s from his 21 matches.
His season ended with defeat in an entertaining elimination final against Adelaide a fortnight ago.
Wood landed at Whitten Oval via pick 43 in the 2007 national draft. He debuted against West Coast in late 2009, the first of 87 matches.
Fellow south-west footballers Jordan Lewis (Hawthorn) and Jeremy Cameron (GWS) were part of the 40-member All-Australian preliminary squad but missed selection.
