Ms Lane bought what appears to be a family portrait from a garage sale a few years ago because she liked the antique wooden frame it was in.
She stumbled across it again a couple of weeks ago and noticed the two men in the picture were dressed in military uniforms.
“I thought with the centenary of Anzac approaching, there might be someone who would like it back,” Ms Lane said.
“I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away so I thought I would put a call out to see if anyone recognised the people and maybe reunite the photo with someone who has a connection to it.”
Ms Lane said the only identifying feature on the picture wording in the bottom right-hand corner that says Walter Sheridan, Camperdown.
“I did a web search and found that he was a photographer in Camperdown from 1910 to 1927,” she said.
“So the dates suggest these two men could be returned World War I veterans and possibly from the Camperdown area.”
