Member for South-West Coast Denis Napthine, together with Warrnambool Racing Club CEO John Green and board chairman Des Roberts, yesterday launched a shop window display competition for race week.
To coincide with a push to buy local, the racing club is encouraging businesses to create a window display with a racing theme and register their business as a participant.
Dr Napthine said anyone going to the races and in need of a new outfit should buy local.
“It’s good value for money and you’re supporting the town, so dress up and buy local,” Dr Napthine said.
“With so many quality stores here in Warrnambool, there’s something for everyone this May Racing Carnival right here on our doorstep.
“Our local businesses support our community in so many ways. They sponsor our events, our schools and our charities, and in order to keep these businesses strong enough to support our community we must continue to support them and shop locally.”
People planning on getting trackside can also buy tickets, merchandise or renew memberships at a Warrnambool Racing Club pop-up shop in Liebig Street.
Mr Roberts said punters will be able to find out everything about the May races at the temporary store.
He said bookings for corporate functions were well up on last year and was hoping the nice autumn weather continued for the three-day event.
The racing club’s officials will judge the window displays on May 4 and the winner will receive a hospitality package for two people in the rails marquee for the Grand Annual Steeplechase.
