The site will be built close to the Derrinallum landmark with $150,000 allocated from the government’s Regional Growth Fund.
Mr Mulder said the new centre would promote Mount Elephant as a major attraction in the region.
“(The mountain) flaunts 360-degree views across the Western Plains and its bird-watching, hiking and educational value attracts many visitors every year,” the Polwarth MP said.
Apart from the state contribution, the Mount Elephant Community Management Committee will contribute $24,500, Corangamite Shire Council will provide $50,000 and a further $400,500 will come from the Jack and Millie Borbidge Fund.
Mr Mulder said the 200-square-metre centre would be built at the base of Mount Elephant, using sustainable design principles.
