The three gallopers, which have been entered for this year’s Caulfield and Melbourne cups plus Cox Plate, are due to gallop after race five on the 10-race program.
Weir’s Warrnambool satellite stable foreman Daniel Bowman said Signoff, Prince Of Penzance and Black Tycoon were making good progress in their campaigns. “We’re really pleased that the Warrnambool Racing Club has allowed the three horses to gallop on the course proper,” Bowman said.
“I think the presence of the three horses should be an added attraction to the meeting.
“They are all very good horses who are being aimed at some of the feature races over the spring carnival in Melbourne. The three horses have done a lot of their preparations at the beach and the sand dunes.”
Signoff, the winner of six of his seven starts, will gallop over 1000 metres as he prepares for a 1400-metre race at Caulfield next Saturday.
Prince Of Penzance, to be entered for the same race, will work over 800 metres with his stablemate Black Tycoon.
The 2014 Perth Cup winner, Black Tycoon may kick off his spring campaign in the Memise Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.
Warrnambool Racing Club CEO John Green said the track was rated a heavy 9 for today’s meeting, which has four jumps races on the card including the $50,000 final of the rookie jumps series.
“Jumps fans are really well catered for with the four jumps races. I would say the four jumping races will be a launching pad for some promising jumpers aiming towards next season’s races,” Green said.
“We’ve rated the track a heavy 9 due to a soft patch rounding the home turn but apart from that spot the track is in good shape considering the amount of racing and the weather we’ve had over the last few months.”
The first race is scheduled to start at 11.30am. The track gallop for Weir’s spring hopefuls has been pencilled in for 2pm.
