Jacinta knows very little about football, but she was very happy to collect her prizes this week after she was announced as the top tipper in the first Warrnambool and District Football Netball League competition which ran online at www.standard.net.au.
Her name was entered by husband Brendan who did not want to put his own hand up for the competition, organised by The Standard and sponsored by the Clinton Baulch Motor Group.
Brendan, who has played 300 games for Dennington and now umpires junior football, is almost a professional.
“He’s won four tipping competitions in four years so he was a little embarrassed to enter it in his own name,” Jacinta said yesterday.
“He didn’t even ask me, he just did it.
“Now I’ve won it and he thinks it’s really funny.”
Jacinta has collected a $500 voucher from Harvey World Travel as well as a $500 voucher from Pitstop/Mixx for her husband’s efforts.
The Standard’s director media sales, Damian Hetherington, thanked people who joined in the competition each week.
“Local footy and netball is such a large part of our community and social fabric,” Mr Hetherington said.
“I am just pleased that we could run a tipping competition for our readers that was truly local.
“I’ve had plenty of feedback about the friendly banter that happens about picking the local winners; it’s great for the competition.”
Final results for the Warrnambool and District Football Netball League competition were:
Jacci — 210; Bell70 — 204; Hilly27 — 192; Cunno17 — 92; lemons14 — 90.
The Hampden Football Netball League tipping winner will be announced after the last round of home-and-away matches next week.
