Bishop Weatherill was in Melbourne this week with counterparts urging Australia’s Anglican Primate Philip Freier and Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby to urge the federal government to provide asylum for Christians facing persecution and death in Iraq. The government later said it would allocate 4000 places for urgent cases.
Bishop Weatherill said Australia also needed to deal with the boat people issue better.
