Thwaites, Corletto win Commonwealth Games gold medal

BENDIGO’S Caitlin Thwaites and Kerang’s Julie Corletto have won a Commonwealth Games gold medal after Australia defeated New Zealand 58-40 in Sunday night’s netball final in Glasgow.
A 15-8 third quarter set up the big win for the Diamonds – their first Commonwealth Games gold medal since 2002.
Corletto was outstanding for Australia at goal defence.

The 27-year-old combined brilliantly with goal keeper Laura Geitz to smother the Kiwi shooters.
It was Coreltto's first Commonwealth Games gold medal, having previously won two world championship gold medals.
Thwaites didn’t see any court time in the final after Australian shooters Caitlin Bassett and Natalie Medhurst performed strongly in the goal ring.
It was 27-year-old Thwaites’ first gold medal for Australia at a major international event.
