A 17-YEAR-OLD Portland youth who lit up a deodorant can like a flame thrower and approached his mother last night has been remanded in custody to appear in court.

The young man was already on bail after previously being charged with other offences.
Last night he argued with his mother after he wanted to leave their house about 9.30pm despite their being a bail curfew condition in place.
His mother resisted the youth's attempts to leave an an argument developed.
Police Sergeant Ray Hastings said it would be alleged that the youth sprayed his mother in the face with deodorant and then lit up the deodorant spray like a flame thrower before approaching his mother.
He said it would be alleged the youth got within "a couple of feet" of his mother with the flame.
The woman called police who attended and arrested the youth without further incident.
The youth has been charged with commiting a serious offence while on bail, recklessly causing injury and a unlawful assault. He is expected to appear in a court today.
