Long-time friends Gill Wheaton, Deb Johnstone and Julie Small each shaved their locks to raise funds for the foundation.
Ms Small said the generosity of strangers had taken the fund-raising total well beyond their expectations.
“We had the shave at 8pm and taking the tins around people were so generous, it was unbelievable,” she said. “It took the three of us back a little bit.
“We thought it would just be our friends but people we didn’t even know were helping us out.”
She said the experience had been overwhelming for the trio.
“We thought with $2000 we’d be rapt, then we thought we had about $5000 and when we counted $7500 we were just overwhelmed. I actually felt very teary. It makes you realise what we’ve done has been so worth it. I’d do it again tomorrow if I had to, without hesitation.”
