The Standard’s story yesterday announcing Alan and Roslyn’s retirement decision after almost three decades of feeding customers triggered a flood of phone calls and visits by well-wishers.
“The response has been amazing,” Mr Tampion said.
“We’ve had lots of kisses and cuddles from customers who were sad to hear the news, plus lots of offers of assistance to pack up.
“There will be a farewell afternoon tea on Sunday week from 3pm to 6pm.”
The Tampions decided to call it quits after 29 years rather than bear the burden of what they described as a substantial rent rise.
