Glenelg Shire Council has teamed with National Australia Bank (NAB) to bring former Federal Treasury economist Tom Taylor to the district.
Mr Taylor is NAB’s head of international economics.
He will be a guest presenter at luncheons in Portland and Casterton on May 29 and 30.
The presentations from Mr Taylor focus on federal budget information specific to the region.
NAB’s Portland business banking manager Janeece Schack said it was imperative small businesses had access to expertise and to discuss how the economy could affect their business.
“As far as I know, this event will be the first of its kind held in Portland,” she said.
“The presentations we are offering will be focusing on rural sector trends, including wool, beef and sheep meat, plus state and federal budgets and what they mean to the Western District.
“We don’t view this event as a luxury item, more a necessity for small business to have access to specialists of this calibre locally.”
