Member for Polwarth and Roads Minister Terry Mulder said VicRoads had installed a new concrete island near the Timboon-Port Campbell Road’s intersection with Rands Road to provide pedestrians with safe refuge when crossing the road.
“These safety improvements on Timboon-Port Campbell Road will provide sanctuary for pedestrians needing to cross near the busy shopping precinct,” Mr Mulder said.
“People are now able to cross one direction of traffic, then wait safely for a sufficient gap from the opposite direction to complete their journey across the road.
“Those visiting and purchasing from local businesses will find the new crossing the safest place to cross this busy road,” he said.
Mr Mulder said Timboon-Port Campbell Road provided an important link where three key arterial roads met.
“About 450 vehicles use this road every day with a broad mix of trucks, cars and caravans,” he said.
The road serviced both residential and commercial zones within the area, Mr Mulder said.
“This is a terrific outcome with VicRoads getting the job done quickly with little fuss, resulting in major benefits for this rural town.”
Mr Mulder said the work was undertaken after VicRoads and the state government listened to local people and their concerns, and made improvements to meet community expectations.
