WARRNAMBOOL father and son duo Ian and Shannon Rentsch started their Australian Off Road Championship defence with a second place finish in Western Australia on Sunday.

The six-time championship pair, who won their first title since 2009 last year, finished the Kalgoorlie 400 behind Perth-based team Beau Robinson and Ken Skinner. Robinson and Skinner finished the five-lap race in four hours, 46 minutes and 15 seconds.
The Rentschs, who qualified fourth, moved into second place heading into the final two laps.
They finished 2.01 minutes behind the winners.
The Australian championships now move to the Northern Territory for the iconic Finke Desert Race from June 6 to 9.
