The Brett Taylor-coached side suffered a 9.6 (60) to 2.3 (15) loss to Central Murray in the under 15 competition’s division two grand final in Melbourne.
Taylor said Central Murray grabbed control of the contest in the third term.
“They came out in the third quarter and kicked four quick goals and we couldn’t hold on,” he said.
“They were better and stronger than us today.”
Taylor said he was proud of his side’s efforts.
Colac trio Jarrod Walters, Leigh Gorwell and Bryce McDonald and Alvie’s Zac Parker were Hampden’s best in the grand final.
Taylor said Hampden, which won its first two games to book its spot in the decider, took invaluable lessons from the statewide carnival.
“I think they realised they have a bit of work to do on the training track and the next time they play this type of footy that they have to work harder,” Taylor said.
“(The grand final) was a little disappointing but they’re happy to go back to their footy clubs and hopefully improve during the year.”
