Solid plastering apprentice Dylan Baillie won the Master Builders Association chairman’s award for the south-west region and will now compete in the state finals in Melbourne on May 9.
He follows carpentry apprentice Bryce Conheady, who is also registered with Westvic Staffing Solutions and recently received the same award for the Ballarat region.
Both are now in the running for the state awards on May 9.
Dylan is hosted by Adam Reid from T&A Reid Solid Plaster. Mr Reid said Dylan was doing well in his work and training and was nearing the end of his apprenticeship.
“He’s going well and is a good worker,” he said.
Dylan applied for the job after noticing a listing on the Westvic Staffing Solutions website and now looks forward to a long career in the field.
“It’s good. We get to work across the district, mostly on residences, with different builders,” he said. “I like working with my hands.”
Dylan, in the fourth and final year of his apprenticeship, has a long-term goal of starting his own business.
He has completed the study component of his Certificate III in Solid Plastering apprenticeship at the Warrnambool Building Skills Centre.
