The victim, a Warrnambool man aged about 30, hit his head on the bitumen footpath after being felled by a “coward punch”, Leading Senior Constable Glenn McDuff said.
“The incident has happened about 1.15am outside The Stump Hotel on Bank Street. It was just after closing time and there about 40 to 50 people in the vicinity,” he said.
The injured man, who was staying in Port Fairy, was helped home by friends and did not require immediate medical treatment.
“The hotel has CCTV and we will be looking at that. We are also asking for any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers or Port Fairy police.”
