Lisa Edwards will be heading to Port Fairy for the first instalment of the Winter Weekends in June.
The renowned songstress will perform a feature show at the Reardon Theatre on Saturday, June 7, accompanied by a four-piece band.
Edwards is a respected figure in the Australia music industry, having success as both a solo artist and backing singer.
In 1993 she released the single Cry, which achieved a top-five placing on the Australian charts.
She has also worked with some of the best performers in the music industry, opening concerts for international stars such as Tom Jones and Olivia Newton-John.
She has been a much sought-after back-up singer throughout her career, which has included playing with big-name acts such as Kylie Minogue, John Farnham and the Black Sorrows.
Port Fairy Winter Weekends co-ordinator Ross Morey said being able to secure such a high-quality performer so early was a big boost.
“It is a big honour for us because Lisa actually approached us about coming and performing at the Winter Weekends,” Mr Morey said.
“Everything has worked out perfectly for this year time wise so we are rapt to be able to bring Lisa to Port Fairy. I think it shows the reputation Port Fairy has as a town that has quality music events that someone of Lisa’s calibre would want to come and play here.
“Obviously with the Folk Festival, the spring music festival and now the Winter Weekends it is a real attraction to play in Port Fairy.”
Mr Morey said Edwards would play a two-part show at the Reardon Theatre on the Saturday evening.
He said the Winter Weekends had advertised Edwards’ show in the Port Fairy Folk Festival program, giving wide exposure to the Winter Weekends.
