Clean Up Warrnambool Weekend is more than just a tidy-up for the city.
Divers from the Warrnambool Sub Aqua Club will delve into the murky depths of Lady Bay to remove junk and garbage sitting on the ocean floor.
Warrnambool City Council waste minimisation officer Kate McInnes said this year’s clean-up weekend would again target the Merri and Hopkins rivers.
“We’re focusing around the waterways and from the blowhole right around to Stingray Bay,” Ms McInnes said.
“We’ve already had 20 groups sign up that are ready to go. We’ll set up a site office on Viaduct Road between 10am and noon. People can come and register there.”
n A drop-off point for unwanted and harmful household chemicals will be set up at the Warrnambool Saleyards today from 8am until 4pm.
Registrations for the service must be made at www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/detoxmobile or on 1800 353 233.
