The model plane die-hard has spent thousands of dollars on the hobby that consumes not only his life but the shed at home.
“I’ve been flying model planes since I was eight and now I’m nearly 70,” Mr Watson said.
“They’re not kids’ toys. Some of them are worth thousands of dollars.”
With all the money spent on the models, Mr Watson estimates he could probably afford an actual plane.
“I probably could have afforded an ultra-light,” he said.
Hundreds of small model planes ranging from Tiger Moths to jet fighters will take to the sky at the old Koroit racecourse this weekend as the Warrnambool Model Aircraft Club holds its annual ‘fun fly’.
Mr Watson said the planes had a hypnotic effect on audiences.
The club will show off its planes to the public from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
