Christian’s Bus Company spokesman Barry Christian said the bus was heading south between Halls Gap and Dunkeld when the accident happened on Wednesday night.
He said he understood a truck heading north was on the wrong side of the road going around a corner when it sideswiped the bus, breaking the driver’s side window and another window two bays behind.
The truck failed to stop after the accident.
Mr Christian estimated the cost of the repairs would be in excess of $1000.
“It was very very fortunate no one was badly injured,” he said.
Emmanuel College principal Peter Morgan said the bus involved in the incident was one of two returning from a year 11 retreat in Halls Gap.
Mr Morgan said glass from a shattered window fell on students inside.
The students were shocked but uninjured.
Those who were sitting closest to the broken window then travelled by car with deputy principal Brian Brown back to Warrnambool.
