Detective Senior Constable Jack Beanland, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said and man was interviewed yesterday and charged with intentionally and recklessly causing serious injuries.
He appeared before a bail justice last night at Portland and was granted bail to appear in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on February 17 for a filing hearing.
Meanwhile, a Heywood man, 56, was last night still in intensive care at the Warrnambool Base Hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition.
Portland police are also on the way to the Bridgewater cafe after a burglary early this morning.
Police reported the cafe was entered between 5.15am and 5.30am but it is not believed anything was stolen.
