A HEYWOOD man has been admitted to Warrnambool base hospital with fractures and suspected internal bleeding after being viciously assaulted overnight.

Police were notified about the bashing at 4am this morning and Portland crime investigation unit detectives will head an investigation which is only just in the initial stages.
It is believed the man was involved in an incident at a Scott Street address between 10pm and 11pm last night.
A police spokesman said the victim had been badly beaten.
"He's copped a bit of a flogging. Fortunately his injuries are not regarded as life threatening," he said.
"We believe he was assaulted inside the house."
