Police reported the 18-year-old unaccompanied driver was heading south on Sandys Lane at 7.15am Wednesday when he approached a give-way sign with Castle Carey Road.
His Land Rover was then involved in a collision with a prime mover and trailer which had been carting hay but was not loaded at the time of the accident.
The Land Rover was described as being an insurance write-off.
The truck suffered moderate damage.
The learner driver was transported to hospital.
