The Warrnambool Wolves are looking at setting up a weekly open age seven-a-side competition, similar to a competition already run on Wednesday nights.
Co-organiser Angie Paspaliaris said there was a core group of women who took part in regular women’s Monday night training sessions.
“The training sessions were about learning the game and improving skill level,” she said
“It’s got to the point now where we would like to be in some sort of competition.
“Some of the girls already play in the Wednesday night comp with the guys, but we’d really like to start up a women-only competition.”
She said the competition would likely run for 12 weeks and start in March if there was enough interest.
Paspaliaris said there would be “come and try” sign-up sessions at the Wolves’ Harris Street base every Monday night during February.
“You don’t have to have previous experience playing soccer. We are keen to get newcomers to the game, as well as experienced players,” she said.
“Soccer is a very easy game to pick up and we have already seen great improvement in girls who have only started playing six to 12 months ago.’’
Paspaliaris said individuals or groups could sign up.
“We’d really love to see as many people as possible coming down and giving the game a go,” she said.
Paspaliaris said the information and training sessions would be held each Monday night this month at 5.45pm.
