FIRE crews are flocking to Hamilton's western fringe after a fire started shortly after 11am.

The grass fire is on the Glenelg Highway between Nigretta Road and the Henty Highway, only a couple of kilometres west of residences on the edge of town.
Eighteen fire vehicles were listed at the blaze as of 11.45am.
Temperatures had already topped 38 degrees as of 11am in Hamilton, with wind gusts from the north-east up to 32 km/h.
All traffic heading east from Hamilton on the Glenelg Highway has been diverted.
The fire is covering about 20-25 hectares in grass land and is moving south.
There have been no evacuations so far and fire bombers based at Casterton are not required at this stage.
