Grassmere chases third victory

GRASSMERE Cricket Association will search for its third straight Bendigo Country Week win today.

Its 131-run belting of Northern District Colts yesterday backed up its day one division three win against Maryborough.

Grassmere plays Red Cliffs today.

Captain Chris Bant guided his side to 269 against Northern District Colts after Grassmere won the toss and elected to bat.

Bant made 80 and solid contributions from Ben Julius (66) and Murray Habel (53) ticked the scoreboard over.

Northern District Colts were bundled out for 138 in reply.

Luke Ryan took 3-71 off his 18 overs and Jason Alberts toiled hard for his 2-55 off 16 overs.

Brett Tory, coming off a day one century, snared 3-5 off two overs and Braden Hotker made the most of his short bowling opportunity, taking 1-1.

Grassmere went in for a second dig, making 2-122 off 12 overs.

Hotker (71 not out) and Tom Mahony (29 not out) did the damage.
