Police said the truck, carrying woodchips, lost control and veered onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with the car.
The truck rolled and spilled woodchips, blocking the roadway for an extended period.
The Portland-Nelson Road to the South Australian border was closed from about 11.20am to 7.30pm as emergency services cleared the crash area.
South Australian Ambulance Service Limestone Coast manager Andrew Thomas said the truck driver was taken to Mount Gambier hospital for observation.
“He had just scratches and bruises but was taken for a check over,” Mr Thomas said.
Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated the two occupants of the vehicle.
