Penshurst was in party mode on Saturday night after the Bombers’ A grade netball side picked up its fourth consecutive Mininera and District Netball Association premiership.
The Bombers took down a spirited Lismore-Derrinallum outfit 53-47 at Mininera Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Bombers coach Natalie O’Dea said it was a good win and the team was ecstatic with the victory.
“It was a close game and we are so happy we could walk away with the win,” she said.
“Lismore-Derri kept us on our toes all day. Full credit to them, they played an awesome game.”
O’Dea said the Bombers maintained a small buffer throughout the game, despite strong pressure from the Demons.
“It was up-and-down all day. We got out to a seven or eight-goal lead a couple of times, but they pegged us back each time,” she said.
“They never got in front but at one stage we were only two in front.”
The Bombers led by five at half-time, but by the next break the Demons had cut the margin to just one goal.
But the Bombers soared in the final term, adding 16 goals, while the gallant Demons added 11.
O’Dea said the Bombers were forced to adapt their style of play on the back of precision shooting from the Demons.
“Stephanie Burns was brilliant for them and was shooting them accurately from everywhere,” she said.
“That meant the rebound element of our game, which is where we usually do well, was eliminated, so we had to rely on our midcourt.
“Sarah-Jane McDonald was brilliant in our goal ring and Mel Robertson was vital in the centre.
“The girls all stood up today and played their part. It’s so exciting. We can’t believe it.
Bomber Sarah Robertson was named best-on-court.
In the B grade netball, Woorndoo-Mortlake led all day to walk away with the flag, defeating Penshurst 33-28, and Ararat took out the C grade honours with a 31-21 win over Penshurst.
Penshurst was victorious in the 17 and unders, beating Hawkesdale-Macarthur 32-26, while Tatyoon beat Moyston-Willaura in the 15 and unders, 33-8.
