Member for South West Coast Denis Napthine said the funding allowed Moyne Shire to get on with delivering priority projects for the community. “This allocation of $472,842 from the Local Government Infrastructure Program towards projects with a total cost of $751,273 will help make Moyne Shire a better place to live,” he said.
“Council will now use this funding for a number of infrastructure projects which are priorities for the community.”
Dr Napthine said projects to be funded include a $40,000 project installing new fencing in the William Guilfoyle-designed Koroit Botanic Gardens along High Street and restoring the D. S. Coto memorial gates.
“Yambuk’s popular big slide will have its stairs renewed for $10,000 to ensure children and adults alike can continue to enjoy this wonderful attraction for many years to come,” he said.
“Another worthy project is the upgrade of the basketball floor at Southcombe Park Stadium in Port Fairy as part of the $296,000 building renewal project.
“The stadium’s car park will also be upgraded for $18,685.”
Other projects include fencing the James Street tennis court and Russell Clark Reserve in Port Fairy and the Purnim Recreation Reserve, edging in Atkinson Street, Kirkstall and upgrading the Cudgee hall car park.
“This funding of $472,842 for 16 new projects in Moyne Shire represents a significant investment in our community,” Dr Napthine said.
Moyne Shire mayor Jim Doukas welcomed the funding. “We’re delighted, very delighted,” he said.
“The beauty of this funding is that it covers a wide range of programs so the money is being shared around as much as possible.”
The Local Government Infrastructure Program is a key component of the $1 billion Regional Growth Fund.
