Gleeson, who was picked up by the Bombers with pick 53 in last November’s national draft, will make his debut in the black and red.
He will be joined by Cobden draftee Jackson Merrett and Heywood’s Nathan Lovett-Murray in the squad for matches against the Western Bulldogs and Collingwood at Docklands.
There will be a strong south-west presence in the three-team fixture tonight, with former South Warrnambool player Sam Dwyer named in Collingwood’s squad and former Camperdown defender Easton Wood and Hamilton midfielder Liam Picken in the Bulldogs’ team.
Essendon is under massive pressure because of a joint Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and AFL investigation into supplement use at the club.
But Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson, who has twice been in trouble for sledging opponents, said Essendon’s dramas would be off-limits for the Bulldogs during their match.
“The AFL’s pretty clear on their views on sledging. I learnt a while ago that if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” Minson said yesterday. “I think that’s the best advice.”?with AAP
