And Saturday’s perfect weather brought out plenty of families for the 96th annual event, recording the highest gate takings in recent years.
Tyrendarra show public relations officer Ruth Ingram said the animal nursery proved a popular spot, with each child given a chick to hold.
“It was a fantastic way for them to learn about animals,” she said.
“There were so many children dressed up, their faces painted with their show bags and some money to spend.
“Show day is about childhood memories. It’s something we all remember.
“The gate takings this year were up 11 per cent on last year,” she said.
“The weather had an impact in bringing people out. But I think the reputation of the show is good.”
Ms Ingram said the entries for horse, cattle, sheep, pet and vegetable categories were up on previous years and the ute show-and-shine attracted 75 entries. “The Kiwis beat the Aussies in the annual shear-off, which I think was to be expected.”
She said the committee put in a big effort to make the show a success.
“It’s an extremely big event for the committee,” she said.
“But I can’t imagine life without it.”
Treasurer Kate Joseph, sheep section steward Barry Nicholls and Ms Ingram were all made life members of the Tyrendarra Pastoral and Agricultural Society at the event
