Football Federation Victoria scouts have selected the Warrnambool Rangers’ midfielder to try out for the Victoria Country under 14 boys’ team.
Liam, 13, was identified playing for Southern Cross Strikers’ under 14 boys team in the Victorian Champions League summer series.
The Emmanuel College student will trial on February 9 and, if he makes the cut, will test in front of selectors again in March.
Liam said Victoria Country would take a team of 16 to the Football Federation Australia national youth championships in October.
“There are a lot of good players out there, so I am hoping for the best,” he said.
“I am looking forward to seeing how I am playing against other players from regional towns.
“I am hoping to get into the midfield but would be happy to get in anywhere.”
Liam played in the VCL for the first time in 2011, missing state trials selection. He settled in better in his second season, kicking two goals in 10 matches, and earned the call-up.
“It’s good playing against really good teams from metropolitan areas,” he said.
“We did really well, finishing fourth in our group and finished first out of the regional towns.”
The Rangers, which play in the Ballarat and District Soccer Association, will have open days on February 9 and 16 at St Joseph’s Primary School between 11am and 3.30pm for all age groups.
