With a stacked musical line-up from today to Sunday, the pub’s annual activities will this year raise money for Peter’s Project and St John of God Hospital Mental Health.
Each group will run a sausage sizzle on the weekend, with a head-shave on Sunday and the contents of seven kegs donated from various breweries also helping to raise money. Hotel Warrnambool publican Stephen Philpot said the public holiday always drew a fun crowd for the ABC Radio’s Triple J Hottest 100 countdown.
“We did fund-raising last year and in the past we’ve done the same for the floods,” he said.
“The Triple J Hottest 100 countdown starts Saturday ... last year it was on a Thursday, so falling on a Saturday means we can do a three-day event.
“We just thought we should celebrate Australia Day when we started here three or four years ago.
“It’s something that should be celebrated and it’s great to be able to have local charities involved.
“It’s a very Australian thing for sure, especially on a community level where everyone bands together.
“We want to support this great place we live in.”
Mr Philpot said drinks would be sold at a reduced price with the money raised to be split between the two charities.
“They’ll both be here with groups of people drumming up donations and Terri Hayes is shaving her head,” he said.
“There’s some great musicians lined up.
“We’re lucky in Warrnambool to have such an array of quality musos and there’s variety in the environment.”
Artists who will perform over the weekend are Johnny Hudson, Jason Bull, Dave Burgess, Gonz, Mark Halliwell, Jeff Kane, Kirkland, Glenn King, Tankard, Hudson, The Chris Wilson Band, Louie Clancey, Darren Ely and Lost in Suburbia, plus entertainment from Barry the Magician.
The supplied kegs were donated by CUB, Mountain Goat Brewery, Little Creatures Brewery, Coopers Brewery, Lion Brewery and Octagonal Imports.
