Traffic on the Cobden-Stonyford Road was diverted for several hours while repairs were carried out.
Senior Constable Don Camilleri, of Camperdown police, said witnesses noted a late-model Holden Commodore being towed from the scene.
“It was gone by the time we got there,” he said.
“It’s clipped the boomgate and mechanism pretty hard.
“One boom was stuck up and the other stuck down.”
