The ground will shake this weekend with the fun of a rodeo ready to return to the Port Fairy Showgrounds for the first time in years.
Around 50 entrants have been confirmed for divisional events at this weekend’s show, including bareback, saddle bronc and barrel racing competitions.
“They’ll get to see plenty of action, the thrills and spills — that’s what it’s all about,” organiser Nigel Hogan told The Standard yesterday.
“We’re hoping to provide something for those on holiday in town.”
Best dressed cowboys and cowgirls will take home prizes while apple bobbing and jumpings castles will entertain children.
Showground gates open at 4pm on Saturday with the event set to run until midnight.
“It’s action packed — it’s man against beast,” Mr Hogan said.
Often a drawcard event on the calendar of any country town, Mr Hogan said it had been some time since Port Fairy had climbed into the saddle.
“There has been one previously but it was a long time ago,” he said.
If the night draws a strong turnout of Akubras and utes, there are hopes the bulls will become an annual event for the town.
“I think whatever happens we’ll try and give it another crack,” Mr Hogan said.
