Christopher John Clarke escaped between 9pm Wednesday and 7am yesterday from the unfenced prison at Trawalla, and was found 130 kilometres away in Colac.
A 44-year-old Werribee woman was also arrested and both are in custody assisting police with inquiries.
Police around the state spent the past 30 hours on the manhunt for the 29-year-old who was serving time for burglary and theft related matters.
Clarke, who previously lived in Melbourne’s western suburbs, was classified as a low-security prisoner and was eligible for parole next year.
