Police are investigating the circumstances behind the head-on collision between the truck and a car at Warncoort shortly before 7am yesterday. The two vehicles collided on a straight stretch of the Princes Highway, 13 kilometres east of Colac.
Police said the car burst into flames and its driver, a 23-year-old Highton man — the sole occupant — died at the scene.
It is believed the car veered into the path of the truck, travelling in the opposite direction on the Geelong side of the railway crossing.
The Colac truck driver received minor injuries.
The Princes Highway was closed between Warncoort-Birregurra Road and Birregurra Road until about noon.
Police are seeking witnesses to the crash.
